i remember…when my dad bought HIStory and it was my favorite thing to listen to in the car (that was 1995…i was 9), when i went to my friend ashley’s house and first saw him moonwalk, trying to do that one move in the “smooth criminal” music video where he leans all the way forward and falling every time, the video for “scream” being the craziest thing i had ever seen, watching the entire jackson five movie on VH1 every time it came on, listening to the best of the jackson five any time i baked anything in the house i grew up in, rediscovering “human nature” a few years ago, the first (and every) time my mom told me the story about being in the elevator with the jackson five when she was a teenager, the wiz, my mom trying to hit the high notes in “got to be there” every time it comes on (including when i just talked to her about ten minutes ago)…

i didn’t realize how many memories i associate with michael jackson until right now.
